Geography

At St Patrick’s we are committed to deliver a high-quality geography curriculum that will inspire a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.

800x800-5

We strive to equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

We aim to use our children’s own experiences of coming from a variety of cultures and having experiences of visiting friends and family in different areas of the world as a starting point for our learning and will draw on their experiences wherever possible.  We place a strong emphasis on developing geographical vocabulary and on revisiting learning regularly in order to ensure the knowledge is embedded into their memories, ready to build upon in future learning.

Our geography curriculum aims to teach our children about the uniqueness of our own locality and give them the opportunity to learn about other areas of the UK and the world through carefully planned topics throughout Early Years, Key Stage One and Key Stage 2.  Where appropriate we will make links with other areas of the curriculum including ICT, Maths, Science, Art and English.

We follow the EYFS framework and National Curriculum which set out what children should know by the end of each key stage.
